Facts About Amboseli
  • Amboseli National Park, formerly Maasai Amboseli Game Reserve, is in Kajiado County, Kenya.
  • Amboseli was declared a national reserve in 1968. It became a national park in 1974.
  • The park covers 392km² (151miles²) and has a mixed topography of plains, acacia woodland, rocky thorn bush, swamps and marshes.
  • The park, the second most popular animal park after Maasai Mara, is 260km (160 miles) from Nairobi, on the border with the neighboring country of Tanzania.
  • Amboseli is renowned for its large herds of free-ranging African elephants.

Safari Itinerary: Amboseli Safari – 3 Days

Amboseli National Park lies North West of Mt. Kilimanjaro, on the border of Kenya and Tanzania. The park covers 392 Sq. Km and large concentrations of Wildlife are found here making it a popular tourist destination. The park is such a wonderful place to be with fantastic views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa rising at 5,895 M above sea level.

The Amboseli National Park is magnified by “floating” Elephants within the swamps. Its snow-capped summit dominates the landscape and is a superb backdrop for wildlife scenic photographs.

Day One

We will pick you from your residence at 8:00 am. Our means of transport will be the Roofed Tour Van which is Comfy and Superb for rough weather terrains.

We will arrive in Emali town at 11:00 am and have a stopover to refresh up. We proceed and arrive at the Eremito gate at 1:00 pm. We will arrive at the Campsite at 1:30 pm, have the welcome soft drink and check in our comfy “Green Ranger Safaris Tents” and relax due to the long journey.

After our lunch, we will have our first game drive at 4:00 pm. Amboseli National Park is rich in the bio-diversity. The image of Elephants wondering across the grass plains with the snowy peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro in the background is one known even to armchair travelers.

Also happily roaming the grasslands are the herds of Buffaloes, Wildebeest, Grants Gazelle, Thompson’s Gazelle, Zebra, Impala and Warthogs.

The chefs are excellent and we will have our dinner at 7:00 pm. After dinner, we will settle down in our Cozy Green Rangers Tents and relax as we reminiscence the days of our youth. We will get Sweet melodies of the Superb Starling, Warblers and other Birds.

Day Two

We will wake up at 7:00 am for a shower. At 7:30 am we will have our appetizing breakfast before we start our full day game-viewing. Attendant carnivores include; Lions, the Leopards, Caracal, Cheetah, Jackal, Hyena and the elusive Serval Cat.

The Lions are in plenty and with luck, we will find them at their hunting best! Amboseli National Park has a high profusion of the Herbivores as well. Birdlife is extremely good.

You can expect to see Pelicans, African Citril, Rufus Sparrow, Superb Starling, Turaco, Bee-eaters, Kingfishers, Ground Hornbill, Ostrich, Secretary Bird, Kori Bustard, Martial Eagle, Crowned Crane and other beautiful birds. We will visit the Observation Hill where we will have our packed lunch at 12:00 pm. From the observation hill, there are panoramic views of most of the park and the short nature trail climb is worth the effort.

It was inhabited many years ago by the hunter-gather people-the Ndorobo. After lunch, we will track other animals in the untamed wilderness park.

To crown the Safari; we will visit the Maasai Cultural Village for us to experience the Unique reserved Culture of the Maasai people (optional).

At around 5:30 pm we will go back to the Campsite for relaxation time. For vegetarians, they will have a wonderful meal also prepared by the chef. In the evening guys can relax and enjoy themselves over a mesmerizing bonfire. Dinner and overnight at the Green Ranger Safaris Tents as guys enjoy the tranquility of Amboseli Park.

Day Three

We cannot leave Amboseli National Park without visiting the Hippo circuit. We will wake up at 6:00 am, have a cup of coffee and go for an early morning game drive at 6:30 am (optional). We will visit the Enkongo swamp and other permanent swamps, which divide the grey landscape into broad green swatches, which are favored resorts for Hippos, Elephants and Buffaloes.

Close by are grazing groups of Giraffes, Zebras, Wildebeest, and Impala while numerous Birds feed, breed, and nest in the lush vegetation. We will look out for the graceful Crowned Cranes, Egyptian Geese, Ducks and Kingfishers. With memories to cherish for a lifetime, we will head back to the Campsite at 9:30 am for our full delicious breakfast.

Thereafter, we will relax as we enjoy the tranquility of Amboseli Park before we have our luscious early lunch at 11:30 am. We will depart for Nairobi at 1:00 pm having enjoyed the elegance and aesthetic beauty of Amboseli National Park where Wildlife flourishes in its Splendor. The Expected Time of Arrival (ETA) in Nairobi is 6:30 pm.
