The Akagera boasts of unique Ecology with a combination of swampy wetlands, woodland and a few mountainous habitats. Akagera is home to the greatest diversity of large mammals in Rwanda. Fun Facts About Akagera National Park
Akagera is home to 8000+ large mammals and about 500 bird species.
It was founded in 1934 and is named after the Kagera River.
Akagera National Park is 1,200 sq km (120,000 ha) in eastern Rwanda.
More than 36,000 tourists visited the park in 2016.
The national park is home to all of Africa’s “big five”.

Safari Itinerary: Akagera National Park Safari – 2 days

Day One: Transfer to Akagera National Park

After breakfast at your Kigali hotel, our safari driver will pick you up and drive you to Akagera National Park.

A game drive on arrival may reward you with possible sightings of buffalo, topi, plains zebras, elands, impalas, giraffes, reedbucks, waterbucks, elephants and sitatungas.

You will have lunch at the Akagera game lodge. After lunch, we will have a boat ride on Lake Ihema. You will view hippos and crocodiles and other marine life. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge / Dereva hotel.

Day Two: Game drives in Akagera

After breakfast, we will have another game drive along the lake circuit to view what you missed yesterday. Return to the lodge for lunch and later drive to Kigali to board your home flight.
